puyallup and unexpected adventures

This morning we did our obligatory school subjects at the table, and boy were the kids eager to race through it all as fast as possible! They could hardly wait to play with cousins.

Sarah was filled with anticipation all morning because she had made some special gifts for her cousins. She made up a desgm for a little bag that would carry crayons and a little notepad, then she had sewn it with Grandma Muir before leaving Idaho.

One bag wouldn't sew properly on the sewing machine since it was a stretchy knit fabric, so Sarah meticulously hand sewed it during the long drive to Oregon. She was so proud of her work! Since we didn't have scissors in the van, she had to finish the stitching after we arrived here. She stayed up late hand stitching the handles.

She designed a fun scavenger hunt for the girls to go through before they found their bags. Sarah seems to really love having little sisters around.

Becky and I made a picnic lunch of vegetable wraps, sliced veggies, cacik dip, and fruit. Then we loaded up all the children for a day trip to the Puget sound and a zoo.

The park where we stopped for lunch was so beautiful. I am in love with the variety of blossoms here. I don't think I'll ever get tired of admiring the rich colors and heavy blooms of the hydrangeas and rhododendrons that seem to reside in almost every yard.

The children played and played after lunch, enjoying Point Defiance Park for hours. What a gem of a place this is!

The visit to the zoo itself was relatively short lived for cousin Crystal. We were enjoying a playground when she slipped and fell from a great heighjt, breaking her arm immediately. Oh boy did we feel so sad for her! I gathered up the three toddlers while Becky carried crystal the the stroller!, then we all rushed back to our vehicles, where our first aid kit dispatched painkillers and an aluminum splint. Then Becky rushed to the hospital with Crystal and Abigail.  Sarah was so sweet and volunteered to accompany the group as a mothers helper so Becky could focus on Crystal rather than trying to entertain Abigail in the ER.

I took the rest of the children through the zoo, which they greatly enjoyed. The highlights is the visit were the tigers, gibbons, elephants, and seals. I didn't take many pictures because I was juggling two toddlers, but I did catch this one of the kids enjoying the sting ray pool.

It was a fun afternoon but rather tiring, so we were not disappointed when it was time to head home.

My GPS lost its signal in the zoo, so we had the grand adventure off guessing our way home most of the way. We became lost in Puyallup and ended up in the wrong neighborhood since the street names here are so confusing. We were on the right street, but nothing was familiar. Turns out this road name is used in several parts of town on different streets. Yikees. It was a relief to finally find the correct home, where we broke into Becky's home since the door was locked. We didn't expect to have so many adventures today, but so it was.

We had a great day and really loved playing with cousins. It's such a wonderful treat to spend time with Becky and Brian's family, especially since these little cousins haven't seen each other in a whopping two years! We feel so blessed to spend time with them! The children have become such great friends and they really love playing together each day.
