Nathan hooks up our garden cart to the mower and hollers for the boys. Eagerly abandoning their tree swings, the boys quickly hop in the cart and away they go.
The boys love their job. Their duty is to hop out and scoop up any objects in front of the mower if we missed anything on our preliminary sweep through the property to pick up sticks or stray toys.
Saturdays we alternate between work days and family fun days. Last weekend we went hiking and exploring nearby towns.
This weekend was an outdoor work week, so together we weeded the garden, harvested produce, watered the orchard, raked leaves, mulched the garden, cleaned the yard, collected fallen branches from the last big storm, and cleaned out rain gutters.
This wagon ride is definitely a highlight of the work day for them!
We are very blessed by kind neighbors who let us borrow their mower when we need to cut the grass. We are so thankful for their sharing spirit and try often to return the kindness in our own ways. They are such good people.
One of the richest blessings of living here is our neighborhood. We're surrounded by many wonderfully kind, sincere people in a tight-knit community. It's a new experience for us to be in a neighborhood where people connect so often. In out last town most neighbors didn't even know each other and they were shocked each time we delivered cookies. In this neighborhood, sharing and caring is normal rather than the exception. It's so delightful!
We are so very happy here.
